“Bouquet” Painting

A still life with a flower in a vase and a pear on a table, in an abstract style.

Marian Stroński’s painting “Bouquet” and the project presented alongside it are an excellent example of the artist’s work. As we can see, the paintings Stroński began creating in the late 1950s and 1960s, which had elements of abstract compositions, were very well thought out. Before he began painting, the artist designed compositions using collage. Some designs were faithfully reproduced in a larger format, others were slightly modified, such as the painting “Bouquet” you are looking at. Notice the tabletop on which the jug rests. It is smooth and shiny. In front of it, on the right, stands a pear, reflected in the tabletop, and on the left lies a leaf. These three elements are not visible in the design. They give the composition an illusion of space, something that could not be achieved with collage.
