According to tradition, a new candle is lit each evening. Some Hanukkah candlesticks have an additional ninth branch \u2013 called the &#8222;servant&#8221; because the candle embedded in it lights the others. The candlestick is decorated with a figurine of a perched eagle with raised wings. In Judaism, depictions of birds or griffins symbolize the divine realm.
